The writing is bland, the characters are cliche, and it spends more time talking about social issues. Im all for social issues, but it feels forced. Like they dont know how to make it flow with the story line or just randomly cut to a scene to make there issue. The series stars Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, and many others. Now this series was recommended by my best friend as she practically begged me to watch it after telling me how much I'd enjoy this show and as I can say I really did enjoy the show, I did also have some issues as well. First off, the acting in this show is pretty amazing. I really enjoyed seeing Madison back as I've seen her in projects since I was a kid whether in a Christmas movie, or in The Fosters, it was great seeing her again. There wasn't any performance in this show where I felt it was too forced or just didn't feel right. I also love how all of these girls are unique but this one situation brought them together and made them great friends. My favorite characters for me have to Chandler Kinney as Tabby and Maia Reficco as Noa, I just related to these two characters in different ways. When it comes to the horror aspects in this show, they give off the same vibes as the Scream tv series as there are many social comments about horror movies and little easter eggs to them as well and a part of me just felt that this show isn't as original as I'd hoped it would be. Now yes, many of the subplots were executed perfectly, especially when it came to using sensitive topics and linking them into the story, I thought the way it was handled and the direction and how they used the material to buildup to the end, I thought it was intense, dramatic, and at many times I feared for these characters that I grew to love, but even with the big reveal of who 'A' is, I felt underwhelmed. I also felt like some storylines were a little rushed to try and wrap up the story nicely. So as I did enjoy this show, it still feels like nothing more than a teen drama with a horror remix to it. However, these shows have a different tone and genre to it. Although they both include mystery-solving storylines, the current PLL series is definitely based on the horror genre. If you enjoyed watching TV series like Scream Queens Queens and Scream, you would probably enjoy the new series. It offers classic horror themes.
